Out of curiosity I bought this for something to read on my flight. Seriously, I did not expect to read past chapter 4 and was quite prepared to toss it to the rubbish heap of all that is kitsch. Instead, I found it engrossing and luridly fascinating as Jenna Jameson tells of her twisted path of debauchery and addiction to some sense of inner peace. Throughout the book is peppered with insights and tidbits of wisdom that's surprising considering the source.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Jenna Jameson is one of the cockiest, most self-centered "celebrities" known to Hollywood. Although I read this book cover-to-cover, and was no doubt entertained, I take everything this woman says with a grain of salt. Jameson is just one in a sea of many, many abused and neglected strippers-turned-porn-stars...and she is hardly legendary. Since the book was published, she divorced the loving husband (her second, I believe) she speaks so highly of throughout the book. In fact, some of her photos are dated and down right cheesy.I promise you--I am not writing this review because I am jealous or angry that one woman has found fame and success. More power to her! It is refreshing to see a young woman make it in an industry that is notorious for chewing up young women and spitting them out. As a young woman myself, I am inspired by Jenna's passion, drive, and savvy business sense.But this book is cheesy. Everyone has a tale of woe, everyone has an abusive past, and everyone has a sob story. Jenna Jameson claims to be something so special and unique, but judging from the pictures in the book, she just looks like another run-of-the-mill porn star with huge implants and fake lips.This book is definitely worth the time to read, it's just not worth the money to purchase. Check it out from the library instead.
I agree with all the reviews on this book that I have read. It is not well written, adopting several different styles and no cohesive order but the story itself makes it worth persevering with.Jemima herself is a very interesting character, simultaneously perceptive and lacking in self awareness and this comes through. How someone so sexy, beautiful and smart could fall for so many losers will always be beyond my comprehension, her father seems almost beyond belief and her self destructive life of alcohol and drugs contrasts sharply with her business sense.Not a great book but a great story.
Much better than I thought for sure Jenna has been through a lot. It's amazing what people have been through in their lives. I don't care what kind of woman you are rape is devestating and it affects each woman differently. I applaud Jenna for trying to take care of her family while battling her own demons as well. This is not a difficult read and it shouldn't be. I finished it rather quickly. It is entertaining and quite informative on the porn industry and running a business. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to take a look inside the life of a person trying to find themselves while battling the demons that constantly harass their well being.
Poignant, powerful, juicy, and a must read. I could not put it down. After reading about Jenna Jameson's life I have a whole new respect for her as well as for the females who work in the porn industry. It makes me wish I could write a book like this. Amazing and influential.
Jenna Jameson is easily one of the most recognized names in the history of the porn industry and her tale is a cautionary one indeed. I found her life story fascinating: how she lost her mother at a young age, was a wild teen and a stripper, her history of drug use, how she started in the porn business to make her then boyfriend jealous, her lesbian long term relationship in the beginning of her career, and the very cut-throat backstage goings on in the porn business. Jenna also discusses her failed marriages and how she built her porn empire by turning the tables on the male dominated industry to where she dictates what and who she does in her films. I really enjoyed how candid she was and that the book was well-written, fast paced, and hard to put down. Also included in the book, are lots of photos and old journal entries from her youth intertwined with her stories and there's a page with sex tips too.As much as I really enjoyed the book, I got the feeling that some of her stories were exaggerated and embellished for shock value and attention. Since it was written in 2004, it doesn't include the end of her second marriage to her costar/business partner Jay Grdina, the birth of her twins, the failed relationship with Tito Ortiz, bad plastic surgeries, and the sad aftermath that is her life after porn. I do wish that the publishers and Jenna would've added a few extra chapters about these life events in the reprinted editions.Overall, this book was a fascinating read and a very intriguing glimpse into the porn world and all of its pitfalls!
I really thought this was an interesting read. She had quite a long journey to get to where is was/is. I was a little hesitant to read it in fear or her revealing too much negative about porn to the point where it would turn me off to porn but she didn't go too in detail about the bad part of the industry. She is for sure the #1 best female porn star and I wish her well in her future.
